I gave blood on Monday; since then United Blood Services has sent me one or two thank-you email messages and called me to thank me for my donation. This after they called me twice, once over the weekend, to make sure I'd show for my appointment. I suspect this is because they're short on blood, rather than having staff standing around with nothing to do. They provide free cholesterol screening as part of every successful donation.
The Santa Fe facility on Rodeo Road was also sporting a notice saying they're very short on Type AB blood.
